Orientation Week Session Descriptions


OVERVIEW

Each year GSO offers workshops and instructional sessions focusing on teaching, research, technology, and personal and professional development. They are designed to provide you with information about the wide assortment of University programs and services available to graduate students.  Our sessions offer you a variety of publications that serve as resource guides, opportunities for discussion on issues relevant to graduate education and graduate student life, and opportunities for students to ask specific questions AND get answers. It is the goal of GSO to provide you with information and training that will give you the necessary foundation to help meet your academic goals and prepare you for your assistantship responsibilities.

  • Instructional/Teaching
    Focused toward the new teaching assistants, faculty, and anyone interested in instructional techniques.
  • Personal and Professional Development
    Beneficial to all participants including part-time and non-funded students.
  • Research and Technology
    F
    ocused toward research assistants and anyone needing pointers on research techniques and resources or hands on training on technology resources.

SCHEDULE

GSO session dates, times, descriptions, and pre-registration forms will be available after June 15th.

You will be able to download the GSO-Week-at-a-Glance to find out about the various topics covered this year or download the Index of GSO Sessions where sessions are grouped by their areas of focus. This may be helpful when deciding if you want to focus your attendance toward one specific area. This index also gives the session and repeated session numbers to help you with scheduling.

WHY PRE-REGISTER?

We strongly encourage everyone to pre-register for their sessions to ensure easy check-in process. Read pre-registration instructions and session descriptions before making your session selections. You can register online in a matter of minutes.

The Session Registration form must be submitted no later than July 15th. Students that cannot pre-register by July 15th will have to register for GSO sessions at On-site Registration on August 14th.
