Exhibitor Information

IMBG5209We are looking for high energy exhibitors to provide a hands-on literacy-related learning activity for families. Exhibitors play a big role in the success of the event and we appreciate the effort and preparation that goes into the booths each year. We are excited to invite you to participate in the 13th annual Literacy in the Park event presented by BGSU’s College of Education and Human Development. Last year's event drew over 2,000 people, and this is due in part to amazing exhibitors like you who take the time to help cultivate a love of learning.

The goals for this free family event are twofold.  First, we would like to increase participants’ motivation to learn through literacy-based educational activities. Second, we would like the attendees to make lasting connections with exhibitors or other attendees. Although it is a great event, Literacy in the Park is only one day per year. By encouraging lasting connections, we can help literacy expand exponentially in Northwest Ohio year-round.

To us, literacy is much more than simply learning to read. Literacy is the process of making meaning of the world around us. This can occur through reading, writing, listening, speaking, art, theatre, computer coding, etc. Literacy does not have to be restrained to paper and pencil tasks; rather, literacy can occur through movement (kinesthetic modality) and touch (tactile or haptic modality), among other means.

IMBG5198Literacy also can occur within a variety of topics. Perhaps you will help students learn to read math equations. Maybe your booth will engage children in how to read simple music with quarter notes and rests, and play that music as well. Or teach families about customs in various cultures through language and demonstration, art or music. Your literacy activity should demonstrate the child’s ability to construct meaning of the world around them through sign and symbol systems. This is the central component of literacy, and something we want to see engaged at these learning stations. In addition, this is a PK-12 event, so when developing your literacy activity, it is important to know your audience.

Together we can build a foundation of lifelong learning and academic success.
