Preparing for the Interactive Whiteboard Olympics

The Interactive Whiteboard Olympics will be held during the week of November 12. Once registration is complete (deadline, Oct. 1), competition schedules will be finalized and distributed. Until then, coaching and training are underway. You may choose to train and practice on your own, work with friends, or attend more formalized training sessions. To that end, the information below notes the locations and schedules of areas of access to SmartBoard technologies in the College of Education and Human Development. A calendar of workshops and one-on-one training opportunities is also linked from the webpage.

IWB Resources for Students (Graduate & Undergraduate)

Software: SmartNotebook 11 software is installed on all the lab computers in ED 213A (both Windows and Mac) and on the classroom lab computers in ED 213 and LS 131. Students may use these machines to practice using the Notebook resources and creating their files for use in the IWB Olympics and for their field experiences in K-12 schools.

SmartBoard Access: Students may schedule time to use the SmartBoards located in the Martha Gesler Weber Reading Center, ED 576, or in the EDHD Technology Resource Center, ED 213A. If these areas are not in use, students may also use the spaces without pre-scheduling, as “walk in” practice sessions. The Reading Center has 3 SmartBoard areas available and the TRC has one, but lab classrooms in ED 213 and LS 131 may also be used for practice space, when classes are not in session.

Training: Students may sign up for SmartBoard training sessions in ED 365 and are welcome to attend any sessions noted on the published online calendar.

IWB Resources for Faculty

Software: Faculty may have the SmartNotebook 11 software installed on their computers. Files for this installation are available in ED 213A (TRC) or in ED 365 (Ed Prep 21).

SmartBoard Access: SmartBoards are located in a majority of classrooms in the Education building, and a few are also installed in the Life Science building. Faculty may use these boards any time a class is not in session. For more information about class schedules, click here, or check in the TRC or CoE. Education building locations are: 109, 209, 215, 217, 222, 301, 303, 345, 351, 365, 406, 526, 531, 539, and 576.  Life Science building locations are: 131 and 140.

Training: Faculty may sign up for SmartBoard training sessions in ED 365 and are welcome to attend any sessions noted on the published online calendar.
