Film Majors – Production and/or Studies
Bachelor of Arts In Film
Specializations:
Production: 16mm production, digital post production, work w/actors; writer/producer/directors.
Studies: film history, industry studies; archive professionals, festival organizers, scholars, critics.
MANDATORY (MUST BE TAKEN FALL SEMESTER):
THFM 1610 Introduction to Film Mondays 6:00 to 9:00 pm, with a small breakout section later each week (see schedule).
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED (MUST BE TAKEN FALL OR SPRING):
THFM 1910 Script Analysis - Three sections (Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday, and Monday/Wednesday/Friday).
RECOMMENDED (FALL OR SPRING FRESHMAN YEAR):
THFM 2900 Digital Technology for Film - One section (Monday/Wednesday).
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED SPRING FRESHMAN YEAR:
Students should aim to take THFM 2620 History of Film spring 2010.
RATIONALE: Students should complete THFM 1610, THFM 1910, and THFM 2620 freshman year, the first semester of their sophomore year or
at least during their sophomore year because:
• These courses are prerequisites for the production courses Film I, II, and III.
• And prerequisites for the core requirement, THFM 3650 Culture and the Moving Image.
• And requisites for the core requirement, THFM 3930 Concept to Distribution – which must be taken before or during the
fall semester of junior year, to prepare for the first of two Major Event experiences (external assessment of film students’
work in courses).
RECOMMENDED FRESHMAN PRODUCTION COURSE
Students are advised to take THFM 2900 Digital Technology for Film during their freshman year because it is a production course that has no prerequisites and it provides the knowledge and skills required to create and maintain an electronic portfolio of undergraduate work in film.
