60th Anniversary Season

B R I G A D O O N - Music by Frederick Loewe and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. Monday, July 1st - Saturday, July 5th Curtain time is 8:00 pm each evening.

Come! Join the excitement! Experience the "coming to life" of this enchanting and hauntingly beautiful classic of the American musical theatre for our 60th anniversary celebration! From a misty glen in the Scottish Highlands, the awakening village of Brigadoon...and it's secret of existence... is revealed to two weary American travelers, who discover a bit about themselves...as they discover the "truth" of the village and its people. Filled with lovely and lively music, with swirling dances, with spirited characters, Brigadoon touches the heart with humor and with tenderness. Audiences of all ages will surely delight in the whimsical loveliness of the Highlands, and find joy in the unforgettable music of Lerner and Loewe!

T H E M O U S E T R A P - By Agatha Christie. Monday, July 8 - Saturday, July 12 Curtain time 8:00 pm each evening.

"Darkness...the music of three blind mice is heard in the distance...suddenly a piercing scream, voices shouting, then absolute silence..." It's mystery writing at its best. What better way to spend the end of a summer evening than at a production called The Mousetrap, the most famous of Agatha Christie works, set in a creepy inn in the middle of a snowy mountainside? An unparalleled hit in its native London and worldwide, it is the longest running play in history! Intriguing, suspenseful, witty, and with the prospect of a murder at every turn, it has a wealth of 'whodunit' hints and clues that only serve to throw you off the trail of the real killer! Come and share the intrigue, but don't give away the ending.

H O N K ! - Music by George Stiles and book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe. Monday, July 15 - Saturday, July 19th Curtain time 8:00 pm each evening.

"A marvelously funny, frequently touching and constantly magical theatre piece, HONK! is sure to have a long and lustrous life," writes one critic! Giving it the subtitle, "a celebration of being different," the creative team of Stiles and Drewe have adapted and transformed the beloved Hans Christian Andersen story of The Ugly Duckling into a full-length, award-winning musical gem with an array of wonderful songs and marvelous characters! A relatively new musical, it is witty and hilarious, but also deeply moving at times, and its charm, humor, and message of tolerance is perfect for a family audience! Come, enjoy and perhaps you'll rediscover the 'inner child' in you.

R U M O R S - By Neil Simon Monday, July 22nd - Saturday, July 26th Curtain time is 8:00 pm each evening.

Four couples are at the townhouse of a deputy NYC mayor and his wife to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. The party never begins because the host has shot himself (only a flesh wound) and his wife is missing! His lawyer's cover up gets more difficult to sustain as other guests arrive and nobody can remember who has been told what about whom! It's light, frothy, fun and truly side-splitting humor at its best! Huron Playhouse alumni Ron Leibman starred in the original broadway production of this fast-paced and hilariously frantic farce, and as a tribute to Ron...and to all Playhouse alums... it seems fitting to include this Neil Simon laughter filled 'romp' as part of the anniversary season celebration! Doors will slam, hilarity will abound, and laughter will ring from the rafters!

THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE - New music by Jeanine Tesori and new lyrics by Dick Scanlan; original story & screenplay by Richard Morris for the Universal Pictures Film. Monday, July 29th - Saturday, August 2nd - Curtain time 8 pm.

Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men, and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie has taken the theatre world by storm and has everyone dancing the Charleston! Based upon the popular movie of the same title set in the jazz-age 1920's, it relates the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to New York in search of a new life for herself, and the zany escapades that ensue! The high spirited Tony award winning musical will provide an evening of madcap merriment, sparkling songs, delightful dances, and plenty of pleasure for the entire family. Come! Kick up your heels and celebrate the excitement!
