Left to Right: Dr. Wendy Manning, Dr. Monica Longmore, and Dr. Peggy Giordano.
The Toledo Adolescent Relationships Study was created by Drs. Peggy Giordano, Monica Longmore, and Wendy Manning. These researchers
come from diverse backgrounds and specialize in different areas of research. To find out more about each researcher, click

Dr. Peggy C. Giordano (Principal Investigator) has a long-standing interest in adolescent relationship processes. Although her primary area of
interest has been close same-sex relationships, she has also analyzed parent-adolescent relations, and the wider circle of
friends. Her previous work has focused extensively on adolescent relationship processes and high-risk problem outcomes, as
well as the period of transition into adulthood.
Dr. Monica A. Longmore brings a theoretical understanding of how identity, values, efficaciousness, and self-perceptions might influence relationship
qualities as well as how and why individuals would continue to be in relationships that might be inequitable and not in their
best interest. Her perspective adds an important dimension to the project because she has focused extensively on the role
of self and identity processes within dyadic relationships.
Dr. Wendy D. Manning brings a background of research in the areas of nonmarital relationships and family forms, which emphasize race and ethnicity.
Her previous work and perspective complements the emphasis on exploring the cultural context within which heterosexual relationships
develop and subsequently influence fertility related outcomes.
