Toledo Adolescent Relationships Study
You've been asking...

Students laying in grass Q. Why is the study important?
A.
Your answers will show policy makers, educators, and researchers what it's like to be a teen in today's world. As a result, they may make changes in upcoming policies and procedures based on the answers you provide. YOU are making a difference!

Q. Why do you ask the same questions each time?
A.
If you think we are asking a lot of the same questions year after year, we are! TARS is a study of individuals over time so it is important to ask some of the same questions at each interview to find out how things have changed for you individually. Also, not all of you are the same age or at the same stage in your lives. As you get older, your experiences change. Each time we interview you we include additional questions to find out about your current life experiences.

Q. How was I chosen?
A.
You were chosen by a scientific method designed to select individuals who are representative of the nation's population. When the study began, we limited the participants to 7 th , 9 th , and 11 th graders who were enrolled in school systems in Lucas County, Ohio.

Q. How many other people are still participating in the study and how do I compare to them?
A.
Most of the teens we interviewed in 2001 are still participating in the study. We have compiled your answers and a summary is available.

Q. "I'm too busy." "I just don't feel like doing it this year." "Why should I bother?"
A.
Participating in TARS is your opportunity to make a difference and be heard. We cannot possibly ask everyone what they think, feel, and do, so you were chosen as their representative. YOU are the person we want to interview. As far as we are concerned, you can never be replaced.

Q. I am moving soon. How will you keep up with me?
A.
We want to stay in contact with you so thanks for asking! Please keep us updated with your name, phone number, and address changes. You may also contact us through our toll free number, 1-866-702-TARS (8277). We want to hear from YOU!
