Sociology and CFDR host Hurricane Katrina Symposium

On December 2 nd, 2005, Sociology, CFDR, SGSA and 9 other campus co-sponsors hosted a symposium entitled, “Surviving the Hurricane Katrina Disaster: Poverty, Race and Class in New Orleans.” We invited Joel A. Devine and James R. Elliott, Chair and Professor respectively of the Tulane University Sociology Department, and Petrice Sams-Abiodun, Research Director of the Lindy Boggs National Center for Community Literacy at Loyola University. These photos were taken at a graduate student breakfast with our visitors and at the conclusion of the overflow audience symposium. We thank them for sharing their research on the devastated South and their personal experience as evacuees.
