Profile Tom Mascaro is a media historian focusing on documentary, network news, and information quality. His research appears in American Journalism, Journalism History, Journal of Popular Film & Television, and Television Quarterly. He is co-founder of the Broadcast Education Association Documentary Division and served as Chair Fall 2004-Spring 2008. Mascaro is co-winner of the 2006 Covert Award for best journalism writing in 2005, awarded by American Journalism Historians Association and Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, History Div. He is a manuscript reviewer for American Journalism and book editor for Dr. Mary Ann Watson. Mascaro has also published research on portrayals of African Americans in Film & Television, serving as co-editor with Dr. Jannette L. Dates for a theme issue of the JPFTV and co-organizer of two conferences on the subject. The book Essential HBO Reader (Kentucky UP) features a chapter on HBO Documentaries written by Tom Mascaro. Mascaro is writing a 30-year history of NBC News documentaries produced from the Washington Bureau, 1961-1989. Education (Ph. D.
