Romance and Classical Studies
Prospective Students
Students who had Spanish in high school should attend the placement session during pre-registration or contact the department prior to enrollment in a course. Credit will not be given for course work more than the highest level completed in high school, unless authorized by the chair of the department.
Major
- (33 hours at 3000 level and 4000 level)
- SPAN 3510, 3520, 3670, 3680, 3710, 3770 and 3780 (21 hours)
- Electives at the 4000-level (12 hours)
Major with Latin-American Studies Emphasis: An interdisciplinary planned curriculum of studies on Latin America.
- SPAN 2700, 3520, 3770, 3780, 4010
- HIST 3100
- POLS 3550
- 12 additional hours from the following (Six must be at the 4000 level)
- GEOG 3490 or ETHN 3100
- HIST 3090, 3110, 4110 or 4130
- Two from the following: SPAN 3680, 4310,4810,4820,4880,4890.
Students choosing the Latin-American culture studies emphasis must fulfill the Spanish language requirement by completing Spanish at the 351 level or otherwise demonstrate competency in the Spanish Language.
Minor
- (21 hours at the 3000 and 4000 level, including 2700)
- SPAN 2700, 3510, 3520, (9 hours)
- SPAN 3670 or 3710 (3 hours)
- SPAN 3680 or 3770 or 3780 (3 hours)
- Electives with one course at 4000-level (6 hours).
