Peace Corps Fellows Program

In 2012 the Coverdell Peace Corps Program approved five new Coverdell Programs at BGSU: American Studies, Business, Food and Nutrition, Public Administration, and Spanish.

As Coverdell programs, these BGSU graduate programs build upon RPCVs’ practical international experience and provide the opportunity to fulfill the third goal of the Peace Corps, which is to bring the knowledge and skills learned overseas to an internship experience within a community in the United States. In the Spanish graduate program the Peace Corps Fellows will fulfill the internship experience by enrolling in a minimum of three credits of SPAN 6890: Internship in Spanish Studies. The internship experience is an opportunity for RPCVs to accomplish the third goal of Peace Corps, for that reason internships take place domestically. Peace Corps Fellows can propose their own internship field experience or they can choose one of the organizations that have been identified by BGSU as serving the needs of the Spanish Speaking population in northwest Ohio, such as Ohio Migrant Education Center (OMEC), Adelante: The Latino Resource Center, or El Centro de la Mujer.

If you are a current Peace Corps volunteer who will complete service before the next academic year, or if you are a returned volunteer, your regular application to BGSU’s Spanish graduate program also serves as your application to be a Coverdell Fellow. There is no extra application. Once admitted to the Spanish program, volunteers must submit their Description of Service to certify successful completion of Peace Corps service.
