Spanish is one of the major languages of the world and also the language of the fastest growing minority within the United
States. The Hispanic world has a long and rich tradition, and it will continue to be important socially and economically on
both a national and international scale.
Spanish graduates and undergraduates are finding numerous opportunities in international business, public relations, health
and social service professions, the military and law enforcement. Business, federal and state agencies often look for career
employees who can interact both culturally and linguistically with Spanish-speaking clients.
The most traditional career goal for students majoring in Spanish remains the teaching profession. BGSU offers preparation
for teaching Spanish at all grade levels. For greater assistance in job placement, students should also pursue a second major.
The Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Bowling Green State University offers an innovative Master of Arts degree
in Spanish which combines the cultural and linguistic benefits of study abroad with the guidance and academic support of our
graduate faculty at BGSU. Our program offers students a unique opportunity to pursue graduate study in Spain or Mexico, and
on the campus of BGSU over a two-year period.
