Graduate French Studies: Burkina-Faso

Calendar | Program Costs | Financial Aid | Application

The primary goals of our summer programs abroad are to provide high school teachers and graduate students with an opportunity to learn or refresh language skills and to experience life in one or more French-speaking cultures. We offer a variety of short-term summer programs that can be completed alone or in combination, during a variety of time periods, in French and/or in English. Their flexibility enables teachers on any schedule to participate. Since we offer introductory through advanced course work, no previous French study is required. We do, however, prefer applicants with a prior international living experience.

BGSU offers a 4-week program in July in Burkina Faso, where students take 6 credit hours of courses in culture, media/cinema, and literature.  Teaching personnel include professors from the Université de Ouagadougou, as well as field specialists. All students participate in excursions led by our BGSU faculty on-site director and our local coordinator.

Housing and meals are taken with local French- and/or English-speaking families.
