The origins of The Institute for Psychological Research and Application (IPRA) can be traced back to 1981. In 1981 an institute
designed to provide consulting and research services to local and national organizations was created in the BGSU department of psychology. This institute was originally named the Institute for Organizational Research and Development (IORD). In 1987, it was decided
that the focus of IORD was too narrowly defined and did not involve faculty from across the psychology department or the university.
Therefore, the department proposed to expand the mission of IORD in its application for a State of Ohio Academic Challenge
Award. The Industrial/Organizational Psychology Program received this competitive award in 1989. As a result, the name IORD was changed to IPRA, and the institute became a broader-based
organization open to intra- and inter-departmental collaborative efforts so as to address and meet a diverse set of client
needs for professional services. The goals of IPRA are to:
- Promote “hands-on” supervised educational opportunities for graduate students
- Provide excellent, cost-effective professional services to organizations in both the private and public sectors
- Establish mutually beneficial research collaborations between the University and organizations
