JDI Translations

The JDI Group is interested in understanding job satisfaction across the globe; over time, translations of the JDI have been developed to allow scale usage in a variety of countries and cultures.

While translation of our scale has enabled a broader understanding of job satisfaction around the world, translations of the JDI should be considered as resources for research in the target language rather than as a formally developed "product." Most of the translations were accomplished by student or faculty researchers who were native speakers; frequently, a back-translation was not accomplished; in most cases, little or no work was done on equating the English and translated versions; and to our knowledge, no norms exist for these translations.

There are three versions of the JDI; the 1975 version is the oldest, the 1985 version was an update, and the 1997 version is the most recent version of the JDI. See the table below for more information. We are currently developing translations for some of our other measures as well; for example, the Stress in General has been translated into Spanish and Scale of Life Satisfaction has been translated into Mandarin Chinese.
