Hello and welcome to the web site of the Department of Popular Culture at Bowling Green State University! The Department of Popular Culture is an academic department within the College of Arts and Sciences and its graduate program is within the Graduate College. Our primary mission is to stimulate teaching and research about popular culture in the state of Ohio, the United States,
and the world. Academic offerings in the department include courses leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. Our standard curricula each year include courses in theory and methods, folklore, literature, music, television,
and film as well as courses developed by faculty in specialized areas such as Asian studies, international popular culture,
black popular culture, and youth culture. Our core courses are taught by 12 full-time faculty members who each hold the doctoral
degree in such fields as American studies, anthropology, Asian cultures and languages, folklore, and women's studies. The
Department also houses the Center for Popular Culture Studies which has information contained in this web site.
This site is maintained by the Department of Popular Culture and has been organized to help those outside of the BGSU community
learn as much as possible about our faculty, courses, degree programs, and events. Please send comments and/or suggestions

consider these options: (1) Consult the Faculty & Staff link, review the biographical information for each faculty member, and directly contact the faculty member who best fits
your story needs or (2) Contact the Department Chair, Dr. Angela Nelson, by e-mail ( anelson@bgsu.edu), briefly describing the story you are writing, stating your deadline, and listing a phone number where you can be reached;
she will distribute the e-mail to the faculty and they will individually respond to your request. In all cases, faculty members
will return phone calls or e-mails at their earliest convenience.
