Douglas C. Neckers
Endowment Fund
Investing in our Future
Dr. Douglas C. Neckers' remarkable scientific career has been widely recognized by BGSU and his professional peers. He was named Distinguished Research Professor in 1986, an honor BGSU confers on select faculty holding the rank of professor who have received outstanding national and international recognition through research and publication. Dr. Neckers was also, in 1987, the first recipient of the Olscamp Research award for exceptional scholarly achievement.
The significance of Douglas Neckers' contributions to the photochemical sciences is attested to by his receipt in 1999 of the Inter-American Photochemical Society's award for outstanding achievement in teaching, research and service. In 2007 he was accorded fellow status by the society for lifelong contributions to teaching, research and service, an honor for which only three percent of the membership is considered. Dr. Neckers is the only member of the society to have been recognized by both awards.
Through his teaching and research, Douglas Neckers has touched and enriched the lives of thousands of students over the past 45 years. Now you have an opportunity to help ensure that students will continue to be positively impacted by his legacy for decades to come. In honor of his 70th birthday and in recognition of his lifelong dedication to teaching and research, two endowments are being established in his name. Neckers' Scholars will fund third and fourth year Ph.D. students in the photochemical sciences who have demonstrated outstanding potential for career excellence in the photochemical sciences. The Neckers' Endowed Professor will be established to honor a distinguished teacher/scholar in the photochemical sciences who embodies the teaching/research leadership evidenced by Douglas C. Neckers during his long career.
Gifts will become part of the endowment funds managed by the BGSU Foundation. Interest generated by endowments will support these programs in perpetuity.
