Admission Requirements
Admission requirements are a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related major from an accredited college or university with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale. Students with GPA's between 2.8 and 3.0 may also be considered for admission provided there are other indicators of likely success in the program, such as high grades in upper-level chemistry courses and experience in academic or industrial research. The University requires that all graduate students take the GRE exam. We do not have a minimum GRE score requirement and consider the student's transcripts as the primary indicator of being able to succeed in our Ph.D. program. International students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 213/550.
All full-time graduate students in the program receive stipends for support and have their out of state tuition and most fees waived. Students receiving stipends work as teaching assistants in the departments of chemistry, physics or biological sciences.
A limited number of graduate research assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Outstanding students may be considered for McMaster Fellowships. These fellowships, supported by the Harold and Helen McMaster Endowment, are awarded on the basis of academic performance and on the potential for an exceptional and creative career in the photochemical sciences.
