The Philosophy Department welcomes majors, minors, and students who are interested in the field. The Department works with students who are interested in post-graduate professional education to assure that their preparation meets disciplinary and/or professional criteria and expectations.

Program Requirements of the Philosophy Major (33 hours)

Logic and methodology
Three hours chosen from Phil 1030, 3030

History of philosophy
Six hours chosen from Phil 2020, 2110, 2120, 3110, 3310, 4110, 4120

Normative philosophy
Three hours chosen from Phil 2040, 2180, 3020, 3120, 4240, 4250

Metaphysics and epistemology
Three hours chosen from Phil 2300, 3100, 3160, 3300, 4060, 4140, 4310, 4330

At least 18 hours in Philosophy electives (consult with philosophy advisor).

At least 2 courses overall in PHIL must be at the 4000 level and at least 3 courses overall in PHIL must be at either the 3000 or 4000 level.

All Philosophy Majors who declared their major from Fall 2008 onwards must take Phil 4400: Senior Seminar
