The Philosophy Department welcomes majors, minors, and students who are interested in the field. The Department works with
students who are interested in post-graduate professional education to assure that their preparation meets disciplinary and/or
professional criteria and expectations.
Below is a summary of some of the main Program Requirements for Philosophy Majors and Minors. For a much more complete description

Program Requirements of the Philosophy Major (33 hours)
Logic and methodology Three hours chosen from Phil 103, 303
History of philosophy Six hours chosen from Phil 211, 212, 311, 411, 412
Normative philosophy Three hours chosen from Phil 202, 204, 218, 302, 312, 424, 425
Metaphysics and epistemology Three hours chosen from Phil 230, 310, 316, 330, 406, 414, 431, 433
At least 18 hours in Philosophy electives (consult with philosophy advisor).
At least 2 courses overall in PHIL must be at the 400 level and at least 3 courses overall in PHIL must be at either the 300
or 400 level.
All Philosophy Majors who declared their major from Fall 2008 onwards must take Phil 440: Senior Seminar
