Current Research Interests
My primary research interest is in exploring the implications of empirical psychology for ethics and the philosophy of religion. In my dissertation, I examined how neuroscientific research on mystical experiences should affect our philosophical interpretation of such experiences. My current research is focused on applying empirical psychological research to issues in comparative moral psychology. I am interested in exploring the relationship between Aristotelian and Confucian and Daoist moral psychology. This exercise in comparative moral psychology can, I believe, be illuminated by (as well as serving to illuminate) recent research by cognitive psychologists on the differences between deliberative and intuitive forms of cognition.
