Ian Young arrived in Bowling Green in August of 1993 as a graduate student and has been unable to tear himself away ever since.
He completed his PhD under the guidance of Chistopher Morris in 2001. The title of his dissertation was "Reconciling Cultural
Diversity and Social Unity." His main area of interest is political philosophy, particularly in issues relating to multiculturalism
and nationalism. He teaches a variety of undergraduate courses, including introductory courses, political philosophy, business
ethics, medical ethics and occasionally aesthetics. He also teaches philosophy in BGSU's Political Science department and
at the Chapman Learning Community.
In addition to the above, he serves as the Philosophy Department's Project Coordinator. This entails maintaining the department's
website, writing and publishing the online newsletter The Chocolate Fish which chronicles the department's activities and events. He also arranges the Great Debates series and generally handles
any other projects in need of greater levels of coordination.
He is originally from New Zealand and closely follows the progress of the New Zealand rugby team, the All Blacks, as well as his favorite football team, Leeds United. He is extremely adept at finding excuses to show the above in his classes in order to illustrate some vaguely related philosophical
concept or other.
