Christian Coons Accepts Tenure-track Job at BG
Christian Coons recently accepted a tenure-track position in philosophy at BG. Christian comes to BG from The University of
California at Davis, where he recently earned his Ph.D. Christian has already published in Ethics, perhaps the top journal
for work in ethics and related areas. He was awarded the prestigious Charlotte Newcombe Dissertation Fellowship for the 2003-4
year and he was also awarded the Michael V Wedin Teaching Award in 2003 by the UC, Davis philosophy department. The department
is most pleased that he has decided to join us.
Shoemaker and Wall Awarded Rockefeller Fellowships
The department is pleased to announce that both David Shoemaker and Steven Wall independently have been awarded year long
fellowships at the The Center for Ethics and Public Affairs for 2007-8. The Center is part of The Murphy Institute which is
associated with Tulane University. These fellowships are prestigious and competitive and the department is quite proud of
this well-earned success by David and Steve. Previously Steven Wall and Daniel Jacobson have been awarded year-long Laurence
S. Rockefeller Fellowships at The Center for Human Values at Princeton University.
Dowell and Sobel Leaving to Go to Nebraska
Janice Dowell and David Sobel will be leaving BG and moving to The University of Nebraska at Lincoln. The department will
miss them and wishes them all the best.
The Moriarty Dynasty Continues
Kelly and Jeff Moriarty recently became the proud parents of Henry Robert Moriarty, who was born Sunday, March 25th at 12:16
a.m., weighing 8 lbs, 7 oz. The department looks forward to oohing and aahing over Henry in person in the near future and
wishes the parents well. See the pictures below.
