The Jonathan Heskett Award
2002 saw the first disbursement of another major new award in the philosophy department in memory of a former graduate student,
Jonathan Heskett.

Many of you will remember Jonathan. For those who do not, Jon was a BGSU undergraduate philosophy major who graduated in 1993
and then entered our graduate program in 1994. He passed away on March 7, 1995.
As a way of remembering Jon, and to support students who share his passionate interest in environmental philosophy, his friends
and family have set up an endowment that provides an annual book award of $600. This is open to all undergraduate and graduate
philosophy students although preference is given to those who share his environmental interests.
The 2001 award was shared by undergraduate Alexander Frondorf and graduate Aaron Simmons. The 2002 award went to Anton Tupa. In 2003, Marybeth Bauer was the recipient. To read about Jon and for further details about the award, see the page on the department's website click here.
