Dr. Jules Panksepp arrived from Oregon Health Sciences Institute. His research was heavily influenced by his father and his work represents the future of affective neuroscience. |
Dr. Satoshi Ikemoto from the National Institute of Drug Addiction (NIDA) was a graduate student who worked and published with Jaak Panksepp. Their work has focused on brain reward systems including the ventral tegmental area and nucleus accumbens. Their work together has been instrumental our understanding of natural systems related to SEEKING. |
Drs. Vern Bingman and Jeff Burgdorf. Jeff Burgdorf obtained his PhD under the mentorship of Jaak Panksepp. Jeff and Jaak pioneered the study of ultrasonic vocalizations and affect in the rodent model. Using somatosensory hand play (tickling) they discovered positive USVs around the 55 kHz range. |
Dr. Eric Nelson worked with Dr. Panksepp in the mid-1990s and published on work related to early social development. Their work opened the door for interest in many neuropeptides involved in social behavior and learning. |

Drs. Mike Hennessy and Terry Deak. Both involved in affective neuroscience reearch. Dr. Deak was influenced as a BGSU undergraduate in the 1990s while Dr. Hennessy has been a primary investigator examining the neuroscience of affective communication for several years. |
Fellow Bowling Green State University faculty members Drs. Ken Shemberg and Mike Doherty came to honor the work of colleague Jaak Panksepp. |
Dr. Guenther Bernatzky from University of Salzburg arrived from Austria. He has spent extensive time in Bowling Green learning and working with Panksepp. |
Dr. Paul Patton and Paul Davies talk about philosophy of mind as a growing interest of neuroscientists and philosophers.

Rita Badia, Dr. Mike Bradie and Dr. Thomas Fuchs- the reception brought friends together from different parts of the country and different communities within Bowling Green. |
Dr. Joe Moskal and JUles Panksepp listen to Anesa Miller talk about how much she misses Bowling Green and all its culture. |
Deanne Snaveley spoke with numerous guests and appreciated this celebration of BGSU research. |
Guenther Bernatzky and Lonnie Rosenberg. Geunther examines the potential for music to be therapeutic for emotional disorders. Lonnie Rosenberg is a local Bowling Green artist (see example of her work below). |
Mike Doherty, Ryan Tweney and Mike Bradie have all been part of BGSU research and scholarship for several decades. They have seen the research environment grow and new areas of research blossom. |
Play time means time to develop the best emotional and learning abilities for future play and other activities. |
Thomas Fuchs and Harold Rosenberg decide that this reception was one of the best events of the year. Not a difficult decision to make. |
