Overman who served 42 years at BGSU, was the first faculty member of Bowling Green State Normal College in 1914. He was a professor of mathematics, chairman of the mathematics department, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, dean of men and dean of faculties,

He began his career as a high school teacher in Indiana. Overman was the originator and first adviser of the Key, the student yearbook, served as the university's first librarian and was a student adviser.

He wrote more than a dozen textbooks and authored "The History of Bowling Green State Unlversity," published in 1967.

A 1909 graduate of Indiana University, Overman received his master's degree from Columbia University and his doctorate from the University of Michigan. His memberships included the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Sigma.

At the time of his retirement from BGSU in 1966 [sic 1956], he was presented an honarary doctor of science degree. The university's Board of Trustees named the science building, built in 1956, Overman Hall, in recognition of Overman's service.

Overman, born April 15, 1888 in Bedford Ind., married Gretchen Fast of Napoleon in 1917. She died In 1974.
