Our beloved Humphrey S.C. Fong was born in Hong Kong on June 1st, 1942 to
Yiu-Tak Fong and Fung-Yuk Cheng. He was the eldest of five children, David Fong
(Fremont, CA), Howard Fong (Hong Kong), Wai-Ying Fong (Hong Kong), and Lucy
Fong (Richmond, B.C., Canada). Humphrey attended the prestigious Wah-Yan High
School, from which he graduated at the top of his class. With the help of
Father Howard D. Trube, his hard work and dedication led to a full scholarship
at Carroll College in Helena, Montana where he graduated with a degree in
Mathematics in 1964. He continued his education at the Ohio State University
and was awarded his Ph.D in Mathematics (Probability Theory) in 1969. He then
began his career teaching at The University of Michigan as an Assistant
Professor. His career eventually led him to Bowling Green State University
where he became a tenured member of the Mathematics and Statistics department.
On June 1st, 1974, he wed his wonderful wife Maria, in Columbus, Ohio. Together
they have 3 children, Crystal (23), Tiffany (20) and Daniel (17). Humphrey
loved his family and friends very much and would always give 110% to help any
one of them. He also loved to play tennis, ski, fish, read, and listen to
classical music. He was always eager to share his interests and knowledge with
those around him. He was forever a caring and devoted teacher.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, January 21, 2005 at 10:00 am in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church (150 S. Enterprise St. Bowling Green, Ohio). Rev. Edward Schleter will Officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. There will be No Visitation . Arrangements are being handled by Dunn Funeral Home B.G.
