The funeral for Florence S. Ogg, 98, Bowling Green, will be Monday at 3 p.m., in First United Methodist Church.

She died Thursday (May , 20, 1999) in Wood County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Ogg grew up on a small farm in southern Illinois near Neoga with her mother and grandmother, Hannah Sutton, and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1918 from Neoga High School. She then taught country school near Neoga for a year, earning $50 a month.

Mrs. Ogg entered Eastern Illinois State University in June 1919, having achieved the highest score on the entrance examination in the school's history. She majored in astronomy, minored in mathematics, taught some undergraduate classes, and graduated in June 1923.

Mrs. Ogg taught from 1923 to 1925, then entered graduate school in mathematics at the University of Illinois, Champaign, earning her master's degree in 1926. She taught university classes and completed the course work for her doctorate in 1931.

On July 14, 1928; she married Dr. Frank C. Ogg in Neoga. In the summer of 1931, they moved to Bowling Green, where. Dr. Ogg taught mathematics at Bowling Green State University until retirement in 1969. Mrs. Ogg taught mathematics for elementary and secondary teachers for several years at BGSU.

Mrs. Ogg was a past president of the Woman's Club, Church Street School PTA, Faculty Dames (now University Women), Shakespeare Round Table, AAUW, Phi Mu Alumnae and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the President's Club at BGSU, Phi Mu Epsilon, Sigma Delta Kappa, Methodist Church Official Board, and Wesleyan Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Ogg was born July 31, 1900 in Terre Haute, Ind., to John Thomas and Missouri (Zura) Sutton.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and son, Dr. Frank C. Ogg Jr., in 1988.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia 0. Magada and Florence 0. Smith, both of Bowling Green; two sons, Dr. Andrew P., Oakland, Calif., and Oscar R., Lexington; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren

Burial will be in Wood County Memory Gardens. Rev. Vance Summers and Rev. Kevin R. Crawford will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Dunn Funeral Home.
