Our beloved Humphrey S.C. Fong was born in Hong Kong on June 1st, 1942 to Yiu-Tak Fong and Fung-Yuk Cheng. He was the eldest
of five children, David Fong (Fremont, CA), Howard Fong (Hong Kong), Wai-Ying Fong (Hong Kong), and Lucy Fong (Richmond, B.C.,
Canada). Humphrey attended the prestigious Wah-Yan High School, from which he graduated at the top of his class. With the
help of Father Howard D. Trube, his hard work and dedication led to a full scholarship at Carroll College in Helena, Montana
where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 1964. He continued his education at the Ohio State University and was awarded
his Ph.D in Mathematics (Probability Theory) in 1969. He then began his career teaching at The University of Michigan as an
Assistant Professor. His career eventually led him to Bowling Green State University where he became a tenured member of the
Mathematics and Statistics department. On June 1st, 1974, he wed his wonderful wife Maria, in Columbus, Ohio. Together they
have 3 children, Crystal (23), Tiffany (20) and Daniel (17). Humphrey loved his family and friends very much and would always
give 110% to help any one of them. He also loved to play tennis, ski, fish, read, and listen to classical music. He was always
eager to share his interests and knowledge with those around him. He was forever a caring and devoted teacher.
