History is the investigation of change and continuity in human societies.  Historical study aims to understand the past in order to understand the present more fully.  Studying history creates a trained habit of thinking in the long-term, and integrating political, social, economic, artistic, intellectual, and cultural factors into both the long-term and short-term aspects of society.

BGSU is a great place to study history.  Because we also offer a Ph.D. in History, we provide you with a large faculty of full-time members that includes several world-famous historians and represents a wide range of specialities.

As a BGSU History major, you will take classes from some of the best scholars in the field and choose courses from a wide array of options in U.S., Latin American, East Asian, African, European, and World History. Within these fields, faculty specialities include:

Foreign Relations & Technology
Civil Wars & Revolutionaries
Women, Politics & Sexuality
Immigration & Indians
African Americans & Economics
Crime, Food, & Nazis
Economics & Childhood
