The Department of History is a community of scholars and students engaged in the creation and communication of knowledge about societies in the past and present.
We serve 150 History majors and 365 minors, including teacher candidates in the Integrated Social Studies program. Through flexibility and variety in our plan of studies , we foster skills in independent research, analysis and communication that are highly valued in the job market. Our internships and awards foster and recognize academic achievement, community work, and successful careers.
Our graduate programs are recognized by the high quality of the education and the successful careers of our graduates [click here for placement info]. We offer a range of Masters programs and certificates, including an M.A.T. adapted to the demands of teachers in the northwest Ohio region. Our Ph.D. in Policy History trains a new generation of scholars and policy analysts through an innovative curriculum focused on institutional design,social and political conflict, and the impact of policies on everyday life.
The Department has an active and foundational role in the field of policy history. Department faculty, alumni and current graduate students advance individually and collaboratively the research in policy history, by publishing monographs and articles of national and international repute, organizing ground-breaking conferences, and more recently by maintaining h-policy, a collection of online services for scholars in the field.
