In the language courses, the Common Speech (also known as Mandarin) and simplified characters (as opposed to full characters) are taught. Students will be comprehensively trained, so that they can establish a solid foundation for further acquisition of both spoken and written Chinese language skills.

The culture course features the reading of contemporary Chinese writers, discussions, video tapes and a survey of major political and economic events since 1949.
