The Chinese program offers sixteen semester credit hours in Chinese language
at the 100, 200, and 300 levels. In the spring semester every year, a contemporary
Chinese culture course is also available.

In the language courses, the Common Speech (also known as Mandarin) and
simplified characters (as opposed to full characters) are taught. Students
will be comprehensively trained, so that they can establish a solid foundation
for further acquisition of both spoken and written Chinese language skills.
The culture course features the reading of contemporary Chinese writers,
discussions, video tapes and a survey of major political and economic events
since 1949.
