The department reading room and lounge, 115 Shatzel Hall, holds variety of
reference works, newspapers, and magazines from all of the countries
represented in the department. Guests are always welcome!
A library of information on study abroad, travel abroad, internships and
other opportunities is housed in the reading room. Feel free to come in and
browse.
The
German Club, Japanese Club, Russian
Club, and Chinese Club host a variety of weekly activities, including field trips to cultural events.
There is a weekly Stammtisch at a locale near campus. All interested may
join in German conversation with other students, graduate students, and
guests from Germany and Austria.
The weekly International
Film Series. Each semester at least twelve feature films from around
the world are shown in the university's attractive Gish Film Theater. The
IFS is organized by the department with major funding from the BGSU
Foundation.
The BGSU Language Learning Center is one of the most advanced learning
centers of its kind in this region of the U.S.
An extensive departmental videotheque holds approximately 500 feature
films and television programs. More films
on foreign affairs are available on campus closed circuit televsion,
BGSU Channel 27.
TV news and general interest programming is broadcast twenty-four hours
on campus closed circuit channel 2. Please stop at the department reading
room, 115 Shatzel Hall, to watch. The daily schedule is as follows:
8 A.M. - in English
10 A.M. - German
1 P.M. - English
3 P.M. - German
5 P.M. - English
6 P.M. - Spanish
7 P.M. - German

GREAL Grad, Lab Room 122
Full-length German drama productions are staged every other year.
The Department has had a writer-in-residence program for the past 10
years. Writers from Germany or Austria regularly offer courses on their
work and on contemporary German literature during the fall semester.
Special facilities are available for Japanese cultural activities at the Nakamoto
tea ceremony room and the Nakamoto room for Japanese Studies.
