When deciding which sessions to select please keep the following in mind:
If you will be receiving an assistantship contract and have not previously completed GradSTEP you are required to complete
12 GradSTEP session hours plus your departmental programming activities. The pre-registration form, also known as the Online
Session Selection form, is set up so you will take 9 session hours. Sessions for Tuesday will be pre-scheduled for you based
on your type of assistantship. There will be four session hours that are of your personal choice. These will be the sessions
you select using the Online Session Selection form that will be available after June 20th. There are mandated sessions scheduled
for Wednesday morning and two online training modules. Please refer to the Mandatory Training page for complete details. These online training modules are accessible from your home computer and can be complete at any time prior to the end of the first week of semester
classes.
Sessions for Tuesday are determined for each participant based on their assistantship or session interest. If you are not
receiving an assistantship please indicate if you want to attend teaching-based or research-based sessions for Tuesday.
If you will not be receiving an assistantship at this time, we encourage you to attend as many sessions as you like. However,
completion of 12 session hours will earn you 2 hours of academic credit. The fee for these 2 hours will be covered by a tuition
waiver.
GA's who hold Residence Life and Springboard assignments, need to register for 3 GradSTEP session hours in addition to the mandatory sessions. This is because you will be involved in similar orientation activities within your assistantship areas. Check with
your assistantship supervisor for the time blocks available for you to register for GradSTEP activities.
Before completing the form, carefully review your departmental programming. The departmental schedules will be e-mailed to you by June 15th and are available online.
Contact your DL if you have not received this information by July 1st. Some departments may have selected GradSTEP sessions that they recommend
you attend so be sure to register for those first. Also, do not register for a session that is of a similar content topic
or activity included in your departmental programming. Click here to access the online Departmental Programming schedule for your department.
STEP 1:
Use the Index of GradSTEP Sessions to review sessions offered to select topics that are of interest to you. Then use the GradSTEP-Week-at-a-Glance to determine the time the session is offered. Keep in mind that several sessions are repeated giving you the opportunity
to attend as many of your preferred sessions as possible. Next, you will open the Session Selection Form but before completing this form carefully review each session description to ensure that these are the sessions you want
to attend . You can access this information at Session Descriptions.
STEP 2:
Complete all information requested on the top section of the form. If you are unsure of your assistantship assignment, check
with your Graduate Coordinator before completing this form.
STEP 3:
When completing the on-line session selection form select your first and second choices from the drop-down lists available
in each of the time slots.
PLEASE NOTE: Some sessions are 2 hours in length. Enter the session number in both consecutive time slots during which the session occurs. Watch that you do not
schedule yourself for a 1-hour session at the same time you have selected a 2-hour session.
If you are completing a paper copy of the form (included in the June mailing or downloaded from our website) enter the 3-digit
session reference number of your first and second choices in the appropriate time slot.
STEP 4:
Submit your session selection form online or by FAX to GradSTEP at 419-372-1897. If submitting by fax be sure to include your name and a contact number in the event
the form does not arrive clearly. If you prefer, you may mail the completed form to GradSTEP, 215 South Hall, Bowling Green
State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403.
IMPORTANT! Be sure the form reaches us no later than July 25th. Forms received after that date cannot be processed.
If you would like confirmation that your form has been received, please send an e-mail to gradstep@bgsu.edu
STEP 5:
Keep a copy of your session selection schedule that you submit and bring it with you when you check-in at GradSTEP.
