Instructional and General Fees

BGSU’s tuition is divided into two fees, the instructional fee and the general fee. For the 2006-2007 academic year, the instructional fee for Ohio residents registering for 11+ credit hours is $4,781 and the general fee is $615 per semester.

A student classified as a nonresident of Ohio, for fee purposes, is assessed an additional nonresident fee of $349 per credit hour, up to a maximum of $3,654 per semester, in addition to the instructional and general fees listed above.

For up-to-date fee information, visit the Office of the Bursar fees web page.

NOTE: All students who receive a Graduate Assistantship receive a full waiver of instructional, general, and non-resident fees, as well as a parking permit fee waiver, and a 10% discount in the Bookstore.

Mandatory fees

These are fees that all students must pay, regardless of assistantship support.

* A nonrefundable one-time application fee of $30.
* A nonrefundable one-time matriculation fee of $75, payable at the time of initial registration.
* A registration fee of $8, payable each semester.
* A fee of $7 is assessed to all students each semester, to cover participation in the Student Legal Service Option. Although participation is strongly encouraged, the program is optional, and students can ask to have the fee waived.
* Students taking eight or more credit hours must purchase the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan ($1234 for 2006-2007) unless they have adequate health insurance coverage from another source. Assistantship support does not cover this expense.

All graduate students are required to have completed a Field Geology course before graduating. Students who have not taken this course as an undergraduate can take it at Bowling Green as a graduate student. Because graduate assistantships include a summer fee waiver, students on assistantship would pay only the program charge ($800 for 2007); students not on assistantship would also have to pay tuition ($2,978 for Ohio residents in 2007).

BGSU provides Cost of Attendance estimates for graduate students, which factor in typical living expenses in Bowling Green (e.g., rent, food, books, transportation).
