In My Own Words:

Dr. Karen Johnson-Webb is a human geographer specializing in social and cultural geography, including the social and economic effects of immigration and in population geography with emphasis on Hispanic labor migration and labor force demographics, and more recently on racist landscapes in Ohio.  Dr. Johnson-Webb is the author of a book entitled Recruiting Hispanic Labor: Immigrants in Non-Traditional Areas, published in 2003, and of several scholarly articles and book chapters. Dr. Johnson-Webb has utilized qualitative methods extensively in her research program.  She also works closely with local agencies such as Rural Opportunities, Inc. to assist them in culturally competent evaluation of their programs with farm workers.

In her current research Dr. Johnson-Webb is exploring the nexus between race & ethnicity in the history of a formerly all-black town called Carthegena, Ohio. This will be a primary research focus for the next year or so.
