Profile:

My research interests have always centered on issues of identity as mediated through visual culture.  This has taken the form of articles and conference presentations on the gendered and sexual possibilities for film characters, and currently focuses on the ways in which people use visual culture to create community around an identity, especially at film festivals.  Through my research I try to uncover what kinds of identities, what kinds of people, we allow ourselves to “see” through visual culture.

For Ethnic Studies, I teach the following courses:

1010:  Introduction to Ethnic Studies
3010:  Ethnicity in the United States

I also teach CCS 4850:  Qualitative Research Methods, as well as courses for Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

I co-advise Precious Stones, a student organization “dedicated to the uplifting and unifying all women on BGSU’s campus.”
