This class is designed for international students and members of the community who want to find out more about English and American culture. Movies are an enjoyable resource that language learners can use to enhance their speaking and listening skills.  If you are interested in expanding your knowledge of the United States by watching and discussing American films, this free extracurricular course is for you!

This semester, American Culture Through Film will focus on superhero movies. The first several weeks of the class will focus on some of the most famous superheroes in American culture—Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and the X-Men. Then we will watch and discuss two examples of superheroes who are very different kinds of heroes, Hellboy and Blade. After that, our focus will shift into movies about superheroes that rethink what it means to be a hero, how people can become heroes, and what role heroes play in their worlds.
