Rex L. Lowe
was born in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1943. He was employed as an Assistant
Professor of Biology at BGSU in 1970 and promoted to Professor in
1981. He works primarily with a community of organisms on the bottoms
of aquatic habitats, called benthic algea, that constitute the base
of the food web in most shallow lakes and rivers, and are thus important
to the overall productivity and health of aquatic ecosystems.
Most of Rex's interests revolve around outdoor activites
including hiking, biking, gardening and SCUBA diving. Other interests
include home brewing, particularly dark ales and music (mostly blues
from acoustic delta-style to electrified Chicago-style). Dr. Lowe
teaches Great Lakes Ecosystems for the Center.
