Environmental Health offers tremendous opportunity
for people interested in having a meaningful and important
professional career. Our academic program at BGSU is
one of only 24 nationally recognized as meeting rigorous
professional standards by the National
Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation
Council.

requirements and student learning outcomes.
Our courses prepare graduates to function as environmental
health generalists – able to work effectively
in a number of different areas. A
catalog
listings of our courses is available. Our Check
Sheet lists all of our
program requirements. [PDF
file will be linked]
Our
faculty are deeply committed to undergraduate
education. Well known in the environmental health
community, they are
able to share with students from their practical experience
working with industry and government.
Our students maintain the Environmental Health Student
Group. In addition to looking at professional development
(for example we bring in alumni to discuss their experiences
and make trips to places of particular professional
interest) we get together to help “green” the
campus and to have fun! One big activity we hold every
year is the “Earth Day 5 K,” a run that
brings environmental awareness to a broad community.
Jobs and internships are almost always a key part
of deciding on an academic major. Our internship program
has our students working in interesting jobs as close
by as the local health department and as far away as
Alaska for the Indian Health Service. A shortage of
well-prepared environmental health professionals poses
a problem for both industry and government – and
a great situation for our graduates! The linked list
shows some of the interesting
places that hire our graduates.
Environmental health graduates have unusual opportunities
to go on for additional education. Because of the richness
of the curriculum, graduates can be prepared for
medical or other professional schools, or graduate schools.
