NOTE: Ph.D. candidates in rhetoric and writing may take rhetoric courses beyond the 18 required as electives but are encouraged to develop a four course concentration in a literary genre or period, critical theory, linguistics, TESL, technical communication, creative writing, or an approved set of electives outside the department in one of the following departments or interdisciplinary programs: American Culture Studies, Philosophy, Popular Culture, EDCI, EDFI, Interpersonal and Public Communication (IPCO), or Women's Studies. Consult with the Graduate Coordinator for approval.
