Admission to the Gerontology Program is limited to students meeting the following criteria:
Students who have completed GERO 101, Introduction to Gerontology (or transferred from another school) with a "C" or better
grade;
Students who have a cumulative 2.50 GPA or better based on a minimum of 30 credit hours.
The following procedures for admission apply:
Students may apply for admission at any time after meeting the criteria in A and B above.
Applicants will submit information on A and B above, which will be verified.
A student wishing to enter the Gerontology Program may a) choose to enter the College of Health and Human Services as a "pre-Gerontology
major" or "pre-Long-Term Care Administration" until such time as he/she is admitted to the major or may b) choose to remain
in another College/Program until admitted to the Gerontology Program. No preference will be given in the application procedure
to pre-Gerontology or pre-Long-Term Care Administration majors. The advantage of pre-Gerontology/pre-Long-Term Care Administration
as a major is that the students records will be transferred to the Gerontology Program office, which allows the advisor to
monitor his/her academic progress.
Candidates are urged to apply no later than the sophomore year since admission into the Program in the junior or senior year
may delay graduation since all courses that are required must be completed.
Transfer students will be considered according to the same procedures as Bowling Green State University students. A transfer
student must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5 following completion of 30 credit hours (20 of which must have been completed
at Bowling Green State University) in order to be admitted to the Gerontology Program.
A student must have an overall GPA of at least 2.50 at Bowling Green State University prior to registration for the required
internship program.
A student must have a minimum GPA of at least 2.50 to transfer within the major from one option to another (General Gerontology/Long
Term Care Administration).
Notification of admission decisions will be made as soon as possible after the application has been processed.
