BGSU Forensics, Speech and Debate Team - November 2006

On November 10 & 11, 2006, the BGSU Forensics, Speech and Debate Team landed two impressive wins in one weekend at the “Heart of Michigan Classic” Forensics and Debate Tournament co-hosted by Wayne State University and Central Michigan University in Detroit, Michigan. Falcon Forensicators earned a total of 67 individual awards and three 1st place team awards: one for each tournament and one for top overall team placement at both tournaments, combined. The 17 member team chalked up impressive honors, including 13 first place awards and the top speaker award overall at both tournaments. Each member of the squad earned their way into at least one final round against strong competition from nationally recognized schools, including: Eastern Michigan University, Ball State University, Northwestern University, Wayne State University, Central Michigan University, Cedarville University and the University of Akron as well as others. This tournament marks BGSU’s 3rd and 4th tournaments of the year, following an outstanding 2nd place finish at the University of Akron on October 28, 2006, just behind George Mason University. The team placed at least one person in finals of each of 11 events at both tournaments. Director of Forensics, Paul Wesley Alday was pleased with the outcome, noting, “This weekend showed outstanding student growth in our 2006-2007 season. I am especially proud of all of our new members who really stepped it up this weekend.” BGSU is in route to defend it’s state and national titles in the spring term.
