Center for Photochemical Sciences hosted its annual
Scientific Advisory Board Meeting on October 18, 2002. The Center
for Photochemical Sciences Scientific
Advisory Board is comprised of distinguished scientists from major
corporations and universities, who assist the Center by reviewing its progress
over the last year and offer suggestions to help shape and facilitate its
future direction.
Dr. Frank Samuels, science and technology adviser
to the governor, was this year's executive session guest speaker and discussed
Ohio Governor Bob Taft's new funding initiatives, specifically the Third

and were honored by a talk from Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, State Representative
for Ohio's 9th District.
Following the luncheon, Dr.
Seth Marder, from the University of Arizona presented his research
on Design and Applications Two-Photon Absorbing Molecules.Dr. Marder's
talk was followed by presentations from two Center for Photochemical Sciences
Ph.D. students -- Chuck Luman and Alexei Merzlikine. Chuck's presentation
discussed Single-Layer Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells Based on
Rhenium(I) Complexesand Alexei presented his research on Application
of Time-Resolved Fourier-Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy to Studies of
Excited Species of Alkyl Phenylglyoxylates.
