Study Skills Laboratory

Monday October 22, 2001

Mrs. Joyce Blinn came to talk about the program.

The Study Skills Lab offers The Mentor program gathers 3-5 students from a course (such as our course) with an mentor. The mentor is an undergraduate who has previously taken the course (or a similar course) and has done very well in it --he or she knows the material and ways of studying the material. The group meets once a week.

This is not a tutoring session. The emphasis is on on how to study this type of material and to prepare for exams. Of course the sessions will include discussion of the basic chemsitry. The mentor is usually willing to work with you on particular topics, on areas of confusion, or to help you work through assigned problems. Many students find these sessions to be helpful.

If you want to join such a group, call their office. Better yet, stop by an fill out an application and give them a copy of your schedule.

(It is not realistic to expect this to be helpful to you on the Oct 31 exam. There's just not enough time for a group to form and get down to work. However, there's still a lot of course left.)
