nickel(II) ethylenediamine complexes

edited October 21, 2000

date file: ch407/NiEN_spectra.htm

General Comments These complexes are formed with bonds between Ni2+ and both of the N-atom of ethylenediamine. This results in 5 membered rings.

These ring forming complexes or chelates generally have a large stability for the compound reacting with other amines or with ammonia.

The color of the Ni(en)3+2 salt is generally dark violet to red. The Nien2compounds are light violet to blue, and the Ni(en) complexes are blue to green.

The Nien3 salt is soluble in water producing a red-violet solution, auch bei grossen verdd.

[Ni en n]2+ Ions (n = 1, 2 und 3). Stability constants for the stepwise Complex formation in aqueous solution.,

K n = [Ni en n]2+ /[Ni en n-1]2+ [en] in liter mol-1
