• You must be registered for Chem 128 (lab) or have previously passed Chem 128.
  • If you drop Chem 128 you must also withdraw from Chem 127.
  • If you drop Chem 127 you may be able to remain in Chem 128 lab.

• Recitations vary-- the three sections are

• Hour Exams occur Wednesday evening, 7:30-8:30 in MathSci 220
  • (the October 27 exam will be in Olscamp 117 )
  • Hour Exams occur on September 15, October 6, October 27 and November 17
  • The final exam will occur on Thursday, December 16 at 8:30-10:30 am
• On December 1 We will offer an optional exam-- this is a national standardized test covering Chem 125-127. You may use this score to replace or improve your standing prior to the final exam. This score cannot harm your grade.

• Attendance at lecture and recitations is expected. You are required to take the four hour exams and the final exam. As a rule, there are no make-up exams and you need a very good excuse to miss an exam.
• (Anyone missing an exam is required to take the Dec 1 exam and it counts towards your grade.)
• You are also expected to regularly attend recitations.

• Grading Policy:
  • Each hour exam will count 100 points
  • the final exam will count 175 points.
  • Recitation grades will total an additional 100 points.
  • Additional graded assignments will total 100 points.
    • (Note that Chem 128, laboratory, is graded completely separately and has no effect on the Chem 127 grade.)
  • The assignment of letter grades will be based on your combined scores
    • 92% A, 85% B, 75% C, 65% D
    • (These cutoff scores may be relaxed or curved.)

    • The site will include prior Chem 127 exams (with answers.)
      • Note that prior exams may cover a different set of topics.
    • When the instructor uses prepared notes (outline format usually) that material will generally appear on the Web site within 24 hours.

• * The recommended problems are a major topic for recitation and they often form the basis for graded recitation quizzes. You are expected to review those problems prior to recitation. Unless you are told otherwise, these problems are not collected and graded. Graded assignments will be announced from time to time and will be posted on the class Web site.

• The syllabus from Chem 125 says that you should have covered Chapters 1-9 and Chapter 23 in this textbook. You should start with a brief review, especially if there's been a time gap since you took chem 125. Transfer students or those who are starting with Chem 128 should also review this material to make sure they are ready to start.

• We also have a series of short exercises and reviews planned.
