This curriculum positions students very well to compete effectively for an immediate job after graduation. In addition, graduates are in an excellent position for admission to medical school to pursue an M.D. or Ph.D. in biochemistry, pharmacology, and an array of molecular areas of the biological sciences. This may lead to a position in biomedical or agricultural research in industry, a university or research institute.

How do I get started?

There are three different routes for a student to become a biochemistry major, with each of the programs configured to the individual strengths and interests of the student. The current level of interest in pursuing a degree path in biochemistry is very high at BGSU, as it is across the country. This major has now emerged as the most popular major within our department and is expected to only grow larger with each coming year. If interested, you can take the first step by making an appointment with the Biochemistry/Pre-professional Advisor, Dr. William Scovell (wscovell@bgnet.bgsu.edu, 419-372-8293)
