What is NSSLHA?

NSSLHA is a pre-professional organization for both undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in the study of speech language pathology and audiology. NSSLHA is the only national student organization recognized by the American Speech Language Hearing Association and you can be a member of it at the local and/or state level.

Community Service

 The BGSU NSSLHA chapter is involved in many community service events throughout the year, including painting pumpkins for our clinic to use as decorations, serving Holiday dinners and having karaoke night at our local senior center. Other community service events include playing bingo at local nursing homes, assisting with Woodlane’s Halloween Dance, volunteering at a local soup kitchen and many more.

Social Events

 Every year our chapter hosts a variety of social events in order to encourage our members to meet others interested in the same career as them. Past social events include; ice cream socials, movie night, making holiday decorations for our annual holiday potluck, creating teams to be involved in intramural sports, and the Annual Spring Banquet at the end of the semester.

Fundraising

 The BG NSSLHA chapter holds various fundraisers throughout the year and all proceeds are donated to help non-profit organizations in the area of communication sciences and disorders. In the past we have hosted fundraisers to raiser money for:

•          The Autism Society of Northwest Ohio

•          NSSLHA Loves

•          Operation Smile

•          Toys for Tot

•          BGSU Dance Marathon- Mercy Children’s Hospital

•          BGSU Clinic needs

•          Sunshine Inc. in Maumee, OH

•          And many more…

2008 3^rd Annual Statewide NSSLHA Conference

Hosted by BGSU and UT

The BGSU NSSLHA co-hosted the 3^rd Annual Statewide NSSLHA Conference with UT in November 2008. Professionals in the field of speech language and pathology and audiology came to speak on various topics including; pediatric swallowing, cochlear implants, AAC devices, stuttering, neuroplasticity, and the benefits of OSLHA and National NSSLHA. We were also honored to have the ASHA President, Dr. Catherine Gottfred as the keynote speaker.  The 2009 4^th Annual Statewide NSSLHA Conference will be hosted by Cincinnati University.
