Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated
to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries
of human knowledge through scientific research. Tri-Beta intends to enrich knowledge learned
in the classroom by supplementing it with opportunities to exchange ideas and information with
others who share an interest in the biological sciences.
The Alpha Beta chapter of Tri-Beta,the Biological Honor Society, was
founded at Bowling Green State University in 1952.
There are two types of members:
Membership
Associate Member: Open to all students interested in Biology. Annual dues
of $20.
Active Member: Annual dues of $30. This class of membership is open to those
students that:
- completed 3 semesters of class,
- are in the top 35% of their class (>3.00 GPA),
- have at least 3.00 GPA in 3 or more biology courses with at
least one course beyond 204/205 and
- have completed 16 semester hours at BGSU if a transfer student.
Activities
In the past, Tri-Beta has had overnights at wildlife preserves, cheese
tasting parties, summer picnics, halloween costume parties, raffles and
bake sales. In addition, Tri-Beta members have judged local science fairs,
offered tutoring services and conducted independent research projects
that have been entered in competition with other Tri-Beta members.
