Rex L. Lowe, An abbreviated biography
Rex L. Lowe was born in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1943. Following formal education in local public schools I enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, receiving a B. S. in Botany in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Botany in 1970. I was employed as an Assistant Professor of Biology at Bowling Green State University in 1970 and promoted to Professor in 1981. Other positions held during my academic career include , Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology, Central Michigan Univ., NSF Summer Institute, Central Michigan University Biological Station, Beaver Island, MI, June -August 1971, Visiting Professor, Univ. of Michigan Biological Station, June-August 1974-present, Visiting Professor of Biology, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, 1982-1983, Visiting Research Scientist, Hydrology Centre, New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Christchurch, New Zealand 1991-1992, Fellow, Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems Research, Ann Arbor, MI, 1991-present, Membership Chair and Institutional Representative of the Great Lakes Aquatic Ecosystem Research Consortium, 1993-present and Institutional Representative to National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, Section on Fisheries and Wildlife Resources, 1993-present. I have served as a consultant to over 25 private and public organizations on water quality issues, published over 80 articles and 50 abstracts on the ecology of aquatic ecosystems and have received major research funding from NSF, USEPA, NOAA, and the Procter and Gamble Co. More than 50 masters, Ph.D. and post-doctoral researchers have been trained in my laboratory.
